Fifteen districts are set to receive $2.3 million (about Shs5 billion) for the improvement of reproductive health, family planning and child survival services.

The funds were provided by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and will be channelled through 12 national and international organisations. The beneficiary districts are Bugiri, Kalangala, Kaliro, Kamuli, Kamwenge, Kasese, Kayunga, Kumi, Kyenjojo, Luweero, Mayuge, Mityana, Mpigi, Nakasongola and Sembabule.

Contracts signed
While signing contracts with five of the 12 partner organisations in Kampala on Monday, an official from USAID, Mr Paul Hamilton, said the organisations will work with district governments to strengthen the health system.

“This is a performance-based contract. If the partners don’t meet the performance agreed on, we shall not disburse money to them,” said Mr Hamilton.

“If the project is successful, we can renew it and if the partners exceed the target performance, they are liable to a 10 per cent reward fee,” he added.
